Exit

Lewa was born in Glasgow, where she’s lived all of her life.

I first met Lewa at Akara, the wonderful bakery and café she runs on Duke St.

We talk about growing up as a Nigerian Scot in Glasgow, the nature of hailing from another culture and living in Scotland, her journey to opening up Akara, coming to live in the East End of the city and what the area means to her.
We finish up by contrasting her cousin’s experience of coming from another culture and living in Kent compared to Lewa’s own experience in Glasgow.

Thanks for listening!

    I enjoyed that podcast.
I was born in Duke Street Hospital in 1948 and went to Thompson Street Primary School and then on to WhiteHill Secondary. I lived in Annfield Street just off the Gallowgate.
From 2009 to 2024 I was employed by the Nigerian Government as a security consultant. I lived in the Government Residential Area (GRA), Ikeja, in Lagos during that period.
I travelled all over Nigeria as far north as Sokoto, Katsina and as far south to Port Harcourt about twenty other major cities.
I loved Nigeria and the people and miss it terribly since I retired December 2024. I live in Stirling and have the odd occassion to chat to some of the Nigerian residents here in Stirling in Yoruba language.
    Lachlan.
